The perfect spring clean for your Bod!

We all look for ways to kick start our healthy habits, and coming into summer there is nothing better than refreshing and healthy juices to rejuvenate the body and mind!

A juice cleanse is the perfect way to detox before the festive season kicks in, and so I thought I’d share the story of my first foray into the world of juice cleanses, why I now love them, and how you can join me for the next one.

Detoxing in general has many benefits and while the results of a juice cleanse will differ from person to person, there’s no doubt they will help your overall wellbeing.

Some benefits of a juice cleanse include -

· Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins and minerals. Drinking juices, especially cold pressed, introduces extra nutrients into the body to boost overall health.

· Juices are rich in anti-inflammatory compounds that may boost the immune system and help a person feel more energetic.

· Helps to flush toxins from the body

· Helps improve digestion by introducing healthy enzymes that make the gut work more efficiently.

· Juices can help to improves mental clarity

· Assists with weight loss and helps to eliminate cravings and addictions

While juice cleanses have many great properties and can assist with weight loss, mental clarity and cravings, it’s always great to keep in mind that cleanses are not a quick fix. Instead, think of a cleanse or detox as a starting point – a way to clean your body and mind, and reset your intentions and attitude towards food.

A little of why I chose to cleanse…

I’m generally a healthy person, I was brought up a vegetarian, and still am. Growing up a vegetarian instilled in me the knowledge and benefits of plant based eating, but being a vegetarian doesn’t necessarily equal clean eating all of the time. Potato after all is a vegetable - and man do I love chips! Hot chips, potato chips, hasbrowns, etc. Pretty much potato in every form!

So, my lack of control when it comes to hot chips, coupled with the stress and lack of time that comes with opening a new business, along the cooler winter month, meant that my normal eating habits went out the window the last five or so months. I also have issues with my lower back which have means that I can no longer do the same exercises that I use to do and love. All in all, my body and mind had shifted into a space that I wasn’t comfortable in, and I knew it was time for a body reboot.

While I had set intentions to start eating lighter, fresher and healthier, I kept putting it off with the old excuse “Oh I have too much on, I’ll start next week”. But my body really needed a kick start so after talking to my Mum (who does her own juice fasts more often than not) and hearing that Summer - of Little Rae Prints - had just finished a cleanse, I felt inspired to get serious and get my juice on!

If I had the time I would have done homemade juices, but the reality for most is that time is limited, and it’s that lack of time that generally has us grabbing those easy, but not so healthy meals. These days there are quiet a few companies that take the hassle out of detoxing and cleansing, so after a quick google search, followed by a fair bit of reading and researching into the different companies and options available, I came across Sol Cleanse.

This company stood out to me for a couple of reasons – cold press, organic, locally sourced, aesthetics. Yep, I’m big on aesthetics, and I’ll be the first to admit it definitely plays a big part in my decision making. The biggest deciding factor for me though, was the range of options they had, and I was won over by the fact that they offered a Warm Cleanse.

A lot of the time my eating habits are based on my mood, and there’s something about having warm, comforting food – especially in winter – that is more satisfying.

Sol Cleanse describe their warm cleans as being “best for people that thrive on earth, grounding foods, by having their foods heated before consumption, or with an Ayurvedic constitution of Vata or Pitta/Vata” and I thought, yep, if I’m going to do this, that’s the one for me. A few clicks later and my cleanse was on its way!
